      1. Silver Buffaloberry (Shepherdia argentea)

Silver Buffaloberry is native to the Rocky Mountains and Northern Great Plains. Often found along streams and waterways, it makes thickets of thorny branches and silvery foliage. Plants are male or female: both are required to produce the clusters of small, orange-red berries relished by birds. Silver Buffaloberry has an unkempt, wild branching habit. Prepare to be poked if you wish to prune! Nevertheless, as a wildlife plant or barrier screen with great cold hardiness and moisture adaptability, it has few rivals.
