Banana Yucca (Yucca baccata)
This native of the Southwest features sharp- pointed, dagger-shaped leaves fringed with curling filaments. In early summer come creamy flowers dangling from vertical stalks. Edible, banana-looking seed pods follow. Plant in hot locations of well-drained soil (away from people traffic!) in sun or light shade.
