        Japanese zelkova is a low-branching, vase-shaped tree sometimes used as a substitute for the American elm. A mature 'Village Green' is about as wide as it is tall while other cultivars can be more narrow. Zelkovas have fall foliage of yellow to gold, sometimes a rusty red. They make good street and landscape trees.
