English oak, the stately king of European forests, is represented on our campus by this columnar selection. The species is characterized by traditional oak-shaped leaves with rounded edges. 'Fastigiata' is frequently employed in narrow spaces and formal settings. Fall color may be yellow or rusty gold with leaves weathering to a tan brown, sometimes remaining on the trees all winter. Oaks generally leaf out in late spring, later than most trees.
