      1. Amur Maple (Acer ginnala)

        Latin Name - Acer ginnala
        Height - 20-30 feet
        Spread - 20-25 feet
        Growth Rate - Moderate
        USDA Zone - 3-8
        Drought Tolerance - Moderate

This tree comes from northern China and has very good cold tolerance. Its leaves don't have the traditional maple look - the center lobe is much longer than side lobes. In late summer, the seeds (samaras) turn red. Autumn brings red foliage as well. Amur maple makes a good patio tree due to its small size and absence of fleshy fruit common to other small trees like crabapples and hawthorns. Trees in Utah frequently exhibit yellow, iron-chlorotic leaves, a condition made worse by frequent and abundant irrigation.
