Keefe Health Center is the headquarters of Amherst’s Student Health Service and Health Education programs. It’s open every weekday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. when school is in session. Students can make appointments or walk into the health center for vaccinations, stitches, nutritional counseling, contraception, athletic injury care, minor laboratory tests and other services, many of which are already paid for by tuition. (When the Keefe Health Center is closed, outpatient walk-in care is available at University of Massachusetts Health Services. Students in need of more complex medical or surgical care can visit Cooley Dickinson Hospital in nearby Northampton, Mass.) The health center is named for Harry V. Keefe Jr. of the class of 1943.
