    1. Frost Library

With more than 1.5 million volumes, nearly 600,000 other media materials and dozens of computers available for use, the Frost Library is a vital part of every Amherst student’s education. Here, you can ask for guidance from a team of knowledgeable librarians, explore the College’s history in the Archives & Special Collections, and linger over a book and a snack at the Frost Café. The library employs student assistants during the school year and offers internships in the digital humanities over the summer. Frost is also the headquarters of the College’s new Center for Humanistic Inquiry, The Common literary magazine and the open-access Amherst College Press. Named for the beloved poet Robert Frost, who taught at Amherst intermittently for more than 40 years, the library was dedicated in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy, in one of Kennedy’s last public appearances before his assassination.
