The Amherst College Tread Shed: Your one-stop shop for bike acquisition, repairs, and education.
The Tread Shed is committed to empowering the Amherst community to adopt more environmentally sustainable and equitable transportation options through bicycling. The Tread Shed envisions its place at Amherst as equipping individuals with the knowledge and experience to maintain their bicycles in order to promote a sense of confidence in exploring the Connecticut Valley.
The Tread Shed is managed through a cooperative structure, with the governing body consisting of a faculty rep, staff rep, and student mechanics, and there are open hours every week,
listed on the website. Programming includes bike registration, bike storage, collection of abandoned bikes, and a sliding-scale volunteer to own option. Student bike technicians teach bike owners how to repair their own bike and/or repair an abandoned bike.
