About the Outdoor Amphitheater
Created in 1915 as an outdoor theater space, the Outdoor Amphitheater is still occasionally used as a performance venue, but its most important use is once a year at Commencement, which draws as many as 4,000 visitors to campus. It takes the grounds crew three days to set up the chairs, which are specially constructed for the slope.
