BGSU has actually demonstrated the use of renewable energy in the form of a solar array, since 2004. In partnership with Municipal Utilities of the City of Bowling Green, and with the assistance of funding from the State of Ohio, a series of over 700 photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof of the BGSU Ice Arena which continue to operate, providing a limited amount of power which is utilized within the building itself. An average of 37,000 kWH of electricity are generated annually.
