The Elam Center was named in honor of longtime UT Board of Trustees member Col. Tom
Elam and his wife, Kathleen. Col. Elam was a graduate of UT and a prominent Union City
attorney. The Elam Center houses the UT Martin Office of Intercollegiate Athletics, office of
Campus Recreation activities and the Department of Health and Human Performance. The three
areas work together to strategically utilize the classrooms and labs, weight room, swimming
pool, racquetball courts, indoor walking track, dance studio and multi-purpose room.
The UT Martin women’s and men's basketball teams play all home games in Skyhawk Arena.
Skyhawk Arena is part of the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center and seats 5,000. Pat Head Summitt
Court was named in honor of the distinguished UT Martin alumnus (1974), and coach emeritus
of the Tennessee Lady Vols and winner of eight national championships.
