The East Rose Garden is the one of four themed gardens featured in the lower, or sunken, garden. The others are the West Rose Garden, the Blue & Yellow Garden, and the Pink & White Garden. The East and West rose gardens feature roses from the time period of the original plantings in 1917, including many of the original varieties.
