    1. E.J. Howell Education Building

      Building Number: 513

      The E.J. Howell building was built in 1918 for $100,000 and was originally used as the Administration Building. The building was renovated in 1970 for $163,810; 1982 for $27,142; 1985 for $6,471; and again in 1990 for $1,890,469. The bricks that currently make up the Howell building are from the originals framework The gross square footage is 29,299 square feet. The conference room located on the first floor is dedicated to the memory of Dr. William J. Anderson, administrator, teacher, and friend of Tarleton.

       

      Named for former president E. J. Howell, the present Education Building now houses the College of Education. Inscription on the front of the E. J. Howell Education Building: The John Tarleton Agricultural College in Texas, the great call is the call of the soil. Other commonwealths may strive for empire in swift industry or in trade or in shipping. We hold no jealousies but on our thousand miles of prairie the buzz of the bee and the buzz of the mower are telling of our plenty youth. Listen to the call: the soil is our mother.
