    1. Harmon Statue & Memorial Wall

Dedicated on September 27, 1986, this statue honors alumnus Maj. Gen. Ernest N. Harmon, a distinguished WWII commander and Norwich University president and trustee. Behind the statue lies a memorial wall inscribed with the names of honored Norwich alumni, staff and friends who contributed in significant ways to the university before passing.

History: Harmon enrolled at Norwich in 1912 and later fought in World War I. During the Second World War, he commanded both the First and Second Armored Division in Africa and Europe. Maj. Gen. Harmon was named President of Norwich University in 1950 and served until 1965, when he retired and joined the University's Board of Trustees until his death in 1979. The statue was created by Frank Gaylord, a protégé of local sculptor Labruno Sarzanini.
