Providing heat to the entire campus, the biomass plant went online in fall 2013. The plant uses two wood-chip boilers that burn roughly 13,000 tons of wood chips per year, replacing some 657,000 gallons of fossil-carbon-based fuel oil. Filters remove 90 percent of the particulates and significantly reduce soot, sulfur dioxide and metal emissions from the boiler exhaust.
