Hollis House holds classrooms and offices for the College of Liberal Arts, the largest body of faculty and staff on campus. Purchased in 1909 for use as a U.S. Weather Bureau, the building is named after distinguished Norwich alum David B. “Dixie” Hollis. It was renovated in 1989.

History: A 1922 Norwich chemistry graduate, Hollis House namesake David B. “Dixie” Hollis achieved success after college as a businessman and real estate developer. A commemorative plaque eulogizes him as: “Norwich’s ‘Southern Gentleman’ who will forever be remembered for his grace, wit, charm, and compassion for our great University and for the future well being of our students.” Hollis bequeathed Norwich $7 million upon his death in 1993, the largest gift to the university at the time.
