      1. Ainsworth Hall

Ainsworth Hall houses the School of Justice Studies and Sociology, home to the Criminal Justice program, the most popular major at Norwich. Raised in 1910, the building originally served as a United States Weather Bureau. Note the ornate weather vane on its cupola.

Erected in 1910 as a United States Weather Bureau on the Norwich campus, Ainsworth Hall was returned to the university in 1948. At that time, it was used as administrative headquarters. It later housed the campus infirmary, adopting its name. The original infirmary was erected in 1915 through the efforts of Mrs. Laura Ainsworth, widow of Capt. James E. Ainsworth (NU 1853), a civil engineer, who built over 2,000 miles of railroad track in the Midwest.
