    1. Charles P. Scott Center for Spiritual and Religious Life

The Scott Center for Spiritual and Religious Life serves all students, including those who don’t identify as religious, on their faith journey and in their religious and spiritual reflections.

The center is an open, inviting community that continues the mission of its namesake, Reverend Charles P. Scott, who was a friend to many as Middlebury’s chaplain for more than 40 years. Reverend Scott guided the College through its transition from compulsory Sunday chapel to voluntary service, and encouraged students of different faiths to create voluntary religious groups, including a group of Jewish students who he helped start the campus Hillel chapter in 1954.

The religiously diverse group of chaplains and advisors helps students to reflect, question, gather, discuss, and create a community that contemplates, practices, questions, and pursues a religious or spiritual life.

The center regularly hosts events like religious celebrations; invites speakers, like the Dalai Lama; and creates welcoming, reflective places, like the labyrinth at the Knoll and meditation rooms across campus.
