    1. Atwater Dining Hall

Paper airplanes seem to dart in and out, like a flock of birds, across Atwater Dining Hall. The art installation Sum of All Parts, by Annie Ulrich ’13, created when she was a student, whimsically fills the lofted ceiling of one of Middlebury’s three main dining halls.

Atwater is a favorite on campus for its massive windows that let sun shine in, the display cooking stations, and the hearth that produces freshly baked snacks and breads almost every day.

The 21,400-square-foot oval dining hall seats 225 and is often used outside of normal meal hours as a performance space, dance hall, and banquet space. Students can sit outside on the stone patio and eat their lunch beside the sloping plant-covered roof, designed to make the building more environmentally friendly.
