Only a few years after construction finished on Starr Hall in 1860, making it the third stone building of Old Stone Row, the building nearly burnt to the ground. While residents of the dormitory lost their possessions and dorm rooms, the exterior walls stood strong.
The College started reconstruction shortly thereafter, and, after a few years’ work and a civil war, the building reopened.
More than 150 years after its successful reopening, Starr houses upperclassmen in 37 singles, two doubles, and 15 two-room doubles.
