Adams & Weed Hall
The Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science laboratories and classrooms continue to receive new technologies, machinery and equipment, all of which are accessible to trained undergraduate engineering and computer science students. Students have access to a Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing Lab, a Cell and Tissue Engineering Lab, and a Big Data Lab, among several other laboratories.
Shapiro Family Hall
Shapiro Hall houses the music, drama, history and journalism departments. The building contains two of the Music Department's rehearsal spaces, a large ensemble space that can hold a group of 100+, and a smaller space ideal for groups anywhere from four to 20 musicians. Both spaces are engineered to offer the best rehearsal possible. On the second floor, you will find our Department of Drama and Dance's Joan & Donald Schaeffer black box theatre.
Adams Playhouse
The John Cranford Adams Playhouse, with 1105 seats, was constructed with the Globe Theatre in mind and is capable of holding a scale model of The Globe Theatre's stage. Hofstra's music, drama, and dance departments hold numerous performances in the Playhouse, including concerts by the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, the Symphony Orchestra, and the annual fully staged opera put on by the Hofstra Opera Theatre.
Herbert School of Communication
The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication has state of the art production and post-production facilities where students learn current techniques used in the communication and media industries. Three production studios have been used for television shows, film productions, large events, commercial rental, and student extracurricular projects. Post-production facilities include several edit rooms and the NewsHub for students to collaborate on projects. .
Deane School of Law
The Maurice A. Deane School of Law offers the JD, as well as LLM programs in Family Law, American Legal Studies, and Health Law and Policy. The school offers four joint degrees: a JD/MBA with the Zarb School of Business; a JD/MALFL with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; a JD/MPH with the School of Health Professions and Human Services; and a JD/MA with Hofstra’s Bioethics Center.
Calkins Hall
Calkins Hall is home to the Departments of Fine Arts, Design, Art History, Comparative Literature and Languages; and Romance Languages and Literatures. The fine arts facilities include student studio space and gallery displays, a state of the art graphic design lab, a newly renovated ceramics studio and a professional-level photography studio.
Gittleson Hall
Gittleson Hall is home to Hofstra's Department of Biology and its Department of Geology, Environment and Sustainability. Students conduct research in our imaging center that has both light and electron microscopes, and they study soil chemistry using new elemental analyzers and bioreactors. The roof of Gittleson Hall has a greenhouse used for both biology and sustainability experiments.
Leo A. Guthart Hall for Innovation and Discovery
Hofstra’s state-of-the-art Leo A. Guthart Hall for Innovation and Discovery opened to students in the spring 2019 semester. The 52,000-square-foot building is equipped with a Behavioral Research in Business Lab, an enhanced Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, makerspace/startup incubator, and multiple areas for student independent and collaborative study, as well as administrative, faculty, and student club offices.
C.V. Starr Hall
C.V. Starr has a classroom equipped with 34 Bloomberg terminals, identical to those found at the New York Stock Exchange. This allows professors to train and certify students on the equipment they will use in the field and simulate stock market situations, without using any real money. Hofstra's stock ticker is just 30 minutes behind Wall Street, making it one of the most advanced academic trading rooms in the country.
Shuart Stadium
James M. Shuart Stadium holds 13,000 spectators and is home to the Pride Men's and Women's Lacrosse teams. It also hosts NCAA Championship events and high school championships.
Berliner Hall
Berliner Hall is home to Hofstra's chemistry, physics and astronomy departments and is well-equipped with classrooms, laboratories, faculty offices, and a teaching computer laboratory. Small laboratory class sizes promote close student-faculty interaction and hands-on use of our sophisticated equipment. On the roof of Berliner Hall, you'll find the Hofstra Observatory, which includes Celestron telescopes and computerized CCD cameras.
Hofstra Hall
Hofstra Hall is where it all began, built on the 15-acre estate of Kate and William Hofstra, who in their will left their home to be used for a common good. The estate's trustees founded Hofstra College in 1935, with an inaugural class of a few hundred students. Today, Hofstra Hall is home to a few administrative offices, and hosts important receptions and master classes with guest speakers and remains a building with sentimental, historic and symbolic meaning for all.
Axinn Library
Driving Portion of Tour
The rest of the tour, which covers the more spread-out northern side of campus, is easier to travel by car, which is why we're back where the walking portion began. But if you want to walk, you'll get about 4,000 steps in, so wear comfortable shoes.
The Netherlands
This complex is divided into two courtyards with a total of 11 two-story houses reserved specifically for first year students. Each house accommodates approximately 55 residents and all suites in this area contain two double bedrooms, a bathroom and a lounge.
Graduate Residence Hall
The Graduate Residence Hall is a 5-story 224 person residential facility for Graduate, Law, and Medical students. Each room offers apartment/suite style living with multiple bedrooms, shared common spaces, kitchenettes, and bathrooms.
Towers
Six high-rise residence halls are located directly north of the Student Center. Each high-rise building accommodates between 225 to 300 students and holds single, double, triple, and quad rooms with common area bathrooms at each end of the hallway.
Hofstra USA
Hof USA provides entertainment for students, including arcade games, a pool table, and other amenities, the eatery features a continually changing menu derived from student suggestions and late-night hours. It also includes Dutch Treats, a 24-hour food service venue. Its close proximity to campus residence halls makes this venue a place for students to socialize, dine and have fun.
Colonial Square
Colonial Square is the largest residence hall complex on the campus has three courtyards with a total of 11 two-story houses. Individual houses accommodate between 55 to 65 residents per house. Each house is suite-style living.
Fitness Center
The David S. Mack Fitness Center is available, free of charge to all students, staff and faculty. It is also available to alumni for a small fee. Students can use our cardio area, which offers 40 state-of-the-art cardio pieces, treadmills, elliptical, steppers, and stationary bicycles. Our weight room includes over 50 cybex strength-training pieces.
Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex
The David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex is a 5,000+ seat facility that houses the Pride's Men's and Women's Basketball and Wrestling teams. It also holds concerts, commencements, and other ceremonies.
Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center
The student center is the main hub for student activity on campus. It contains a bookstore, bank, post office, movie theater, hair salon, many dining options, and club offices. Dining options include sushi, kosher options, a salad bar, a grill, made to order wraps and sandwiches, and a Sbarro.
