Enjoy a nature walk while exploring the lesser-known parts of campus.
Stop 1
You are currently at the first (and last) stop of the trail: Fisher Garden. The garden and surrounding greenery serve many purposes for the students of Rhodes: a place to relax, play games, and, come May, as the site of graduation. As you follow the trail to the next point, you will pass by the Labyrinth, Oak Alley, LeMaster Gateway, and, most likely, a few hammocks. Thanks to the Honor Code, many students feel comfortable leaving their hammocks hanging year-round, just waiting for the next sunny day.
Stop 2
You are now at the second stop on the walking trail, having just passed Buckman Hall. It’s home to the departments of Politics and Law, Economics, Business, International Studies, and History, as well as our nationally recognized Mock Trial program.
Stop 3
At the third stop lies our newest residence hall, East Village C. It’s state of the art facilities are home to 150 students and the Unity Lodge, which provides multicultural VOICES organizations a place to gather and be in community with others.
Stop 4
You are now at stop four, in between East Village B (the south building) and East Village A (the north building). Before following the trail to the west in between the two buildings, feel free to explore—just make sure to stop before you reach the water detention area! As you progress to the next stop, you’ll see “sorority row” to your right, home to our NPC sororities: Alpha Omicron Pi, Kappa Delta, Chi Omega, and Tri Delta. The nine NPHC organizations are represented with designated plots on the NPHC plaza, located in between Barret Library and Hassell Hall.
Stop 5
At the fifth stop, you’ll see the McCoy Theatre, known to host fabulous performances from the Rhodes Theatre Guild, the Rhodes College Dance Company, and Contents Under Pressure (the improv troupe on campus). The Garner Fountain is located at the main entrance. As you walk to the sixth stop, feel free to take whatever path you’d like, on either side of the trees lining the fence. You’ll notice Mason Field, home of the field hockey team, directly to your left!
Stop 6
You are now at the sixth stop, at the northeast corner of campus next to Jackson Avenue and Charles Place. If you’re lucky, you may be able to catch a softball game at the field right in front of you! As you progress to the next stop, you may notice how the ground forms a raised path over the north detention basin, perfect for trail-walking! On your walk to stop #7, you will pass Lainoff Stadium and Stauffer Field, home of the baseball team. The large building beyond Stauffer Field is an indoor hitting facility. Next up is the Community Garden, the Beekeeping Club’s hives, some great picnic spots, and several of our campus’ most beautiful trees. With more than 20 tree species and 1,500 individual trees, Rhodes College has earned the distinction of a Class IV arboretum!
Stop 7
Now at the seventh stop, you are on the northwest corner of campus between Jackson Avenue and University Street. From where you are, you can see the soccer field; Crain Field, home to the football team; and the Winston Wolfe Track Complex, home to the track and field teams. As you enter the Mallory parking area, please note the Mays and Smith Memorial Gateways.
Stop 8
You are now at the eighth stop, home to “frat row”: the houses of Pi Kappa Alpha, Alpha Tau Omega, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Kappa Sigma, Kappa Alpha, and Sigma Nu. With over 44% of Rhodes students participating in Greek life, it can provide opportunities for personal growth, development, and community. As you progress to the ninth stop, you will pass the Bailey Lane entrance and get a beautiful view of our Barret Library.
Stop 9
You are now at the ninth stop, in front of West Village and the Moore Moore Health Center. On your walk back to the beginning of the trail, you will pass the Catherine Burrow Refectory (lovingly called “the Rat”), Kennedy Hall, and Robb Hall, and pass through the Ashner Gateway at the end of Thomas Lane. We hope you enjoyed this trail and got to see parts of campus you may have never seen before. Thanks for joining us!

You've walked the entire trail!
