Butler is a coed residence hall. It is exclusive to first-year students and houses about 260 Tulanians every year.

Butler has eight floors. The first floor has a large common area with a pool table, TV, and study spaces. The upper floors have double occupancy rooms laid out in a square, with the elevator and common area in the center of each floor.

Butler is home to the Third Coast Residential Learning Community. This community will explore the unique cultural heritage and physical attributes of New Orleans and the Gulf South region.

Butler Residence Hall, named in honor of Pierce Butler, a distinguished former professor and dean at Newcomb College, stands as an eight-story, co-ed building. Designed to accommodate first-year students, it features double-occupancy rooms. The Weatherhead desk, operational 24/7, serves as a resource hub for residents, offering assistance with key/access matters, security inquiries, and other concerns.
