UTMB's Emergency Department is a Level 1 Trauma Center staffed 24/7 by physicians and registered nurses specially trained and certified in emergency medicine. The Emergency Department (ED) houses a wide range of equipment and offers patients access to advanced technology, such as CT scans and other diagnostic imaging. It is the only Level I Trauma Center in the region that is also a Level I Burn Center. UTMB is also certified by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center.
