The Message Horn sculpture is in the Alumni Sculpture Garden. The Alumni Sculpture Garden showcases temporary installations of sculpture by students and alumni on the University grounds.
Graduate student Elizabeth Sale-Jacquet first sketched her idea for Message Horn on a napkin, envisioning a horn that would allow the living to communicate with lost loved ones. She developed the concept through a series of drawings and paintings, which her fellow graduate student and husband, Jonathan, later realized as a steel sculpture that became a favorite fixture in the Alumni Sculpture Garden. The horn is a working interactive piece; the slightest whisper into the narrow mouthpiece can clearly be heard from the concrete platform at the horn's opposite end.
