          Artist Statement

The red cardinal is often seen as a symbol of unity, diversity, resilience, and hope. It is believed that spotting a cardinal signifies the transition to a pivotal moment in one's life. As society faces such a pivotal moment on a massive scale, we remain strong, holding onto hope for the future. Depicting this image is essential in reinforcing the unity and resilience not only of our state but also of the University and its students during this challenging time. Pairing the red cardinal with dogwood blooms serves as a beautiful reminder of a brighter future ahead, where both students and community members can spread their wings and bring about positive change in the world through their experiences at Carolina and beyond.
