The Cairns sculpture is located in the Alumni Sculpture Garden. The Alumni Sculpture Garden showcases temporary installations of sculptures by students and alumni on the University grounds.
Artist Statement
"This series of sculptures is intended to guide passersby toward the adjacent courtyard and serve as a subtle reminder of the landscape on which the University was built. The stacked rocks, or cairns, reference a common means of trail demarcation used by hikers to navigate wilderness areas. The goal is to pique the curiosity of viewers, inspire them to follow the multiples, and encourage exploration of the adjacent, largely unused courtyard."
