Research, teaching and the promotion of young researchers are closely intertwined at the Freiburg University of Education, because teaching and learning are both the core of university teaching and the primary research interest. The university offers broad support for academic qualification and professional positioning, which is designed and organized cooperatively by thematically specialized institutions. CSU IP's programs in Germany are administered by full-time local CSU staff. The program begins with an intensive six-week Intensive Language Program (ILP) in Horb, a small town near Tübingen. The ILP is a German language and culture course focusing on grammar, composition, and conversation, as well as an introduction to German culture. Students then move to Freiburg to continue their studies and enroll in one German course in addition to other coursework.
