Since its foundation in 1966, the University of Konstanz has distinguished itself through its top-level research, excellence in teaching and studies, internationality and interdisciplinary collaboration. This visionary founding principle is even embedded in its architecture: the short distances and interlinked buildings of the campus university sustain an environment that facilitates communication, interlinks scientific disciplines and advances a culture of creative collaboration. In the current Excellence Strategy program, the University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence and/or consortia with this status in Germany. The University of Konstanz also commits itself to gender equality and family friendliness through its university standards and on-site childcare center for faculty and staff.

CSU IP's programs in Germany are administered by full-time local CSU staff. The program begins with an intensive six-week Intensive Language Program (ILP) in Horb, a small town near Tübingen. The ILP is a German language and culture course focusing on grammar, composition, and conversation, as well as an introduction to German culture. Students then move to Konstanz to continue their studies and enroll in one German course in addition to other coursework.
