         1. The First Tree

            Dr. Hasan B. (HB) Paksoy, planted the first tree on campus in 1975 in honor of his 3.5-year-old son, Selim. He saw it as a way to communicate with his son while he was working on his PhD in political economy at UTD.

            HB shared that his tree was “the first and only greenery on campus when it was planted.”
