Hitchcock Center
The Hitchcock Center for the Environment's mission is to foster a greater awareness and understanding of our environment and to develop environmentally literate citizens.
The Center works to inspire people to learn about our natural world through innovative, hands-on environmental education programs. We help people to explore the interconnections between the health of humans and ecosystems, reinforcing our innate bonds with our environment, and looking to nature as a model and measure to improve our quality of life. We serve over 8,800 participants each year in our school; children, youth and family; and adult community programs.
Our new facility seeks to be net-zero energy and water, built without toxic materials, that will achieve full Living Building Certification - the highest standard for sustainability in the built environment. The building will serve as a teaching tool, allowing visitors and program participants opportunities to understand how a building and its systems can mimic natural systems rather than exploiting them.
The Hitchcock Center plans to be open for visitors in the Fall of 2016.
