      1. The Cherry Trees

In 1940, Puget Sound's Japanese Student Club gifted the institution five cherry trees. Later, in 1942, Puget Sound's thirty-six Japanese American students were sent to internment camps following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. To honor these students, cores from the old cherry trees mark the location of new saplings planted in 1989.
