Established in 2014, the Hindu Studies Initiative at the Graduate Theological Union is a leading-edge program for the multidimensional study of Hindu history, spirituality and culture. Through this Initiative, the GTU offers a Certificate and a Master of Arts area of concentration in Hindu Studies with a primary focus on the study of Hindu thought and practice in its theological, ethical, and cultural contexts.

Hindu Studies at the Graduate Theological Union goes beyond descriptive methods to an in-depth understanding of the lived experience of the Hindu world and its engagement with the major challenges of our time. We offer study and research opportunities in various areas of academic focus in Hindu Studies, with particular emphases on: Hindu Theology | Indian Philosophy and Ethics | Classical and Modern Hindu Literature | Semiotics of Hindu Arts and Aesthetic Culture | Shakta (Mahadevi) Traditions | Hindu Diaspora Studies | Yoga Studies | Hindu Thought and Ecology/Sustainability. Hindu Studies at the GTU provides training for academic professions, leadership positions within the Hindu community, and a valuable academic background for careers in international relations or global businesses.
