          Often mistaken for its close relative a native bald cypress, the dawn redwood has a conical shape and feather-like leaves. In 1947, the Arnold Arboretum collected seeds to be germinated and distributed to universities and botanical gardens across the world. The dawn redwood found between Dinwiddie and Gibson and Richardson Memorial is one of these specimen.
