About
The Hitch Suites and Commons construction was made to be energy efficient. UCLA worked with Steinberg Architects, the Glumac MEP engineering team, and Glumac's energy analysis team through this whole process. The Glumac team was able to incorporate sustainable design that consisted of energy-efficient VRF(variable refrigerant flow) heat pump systems with demand control ventilation, low-flow fixtures, a new high-efficiency electric transformer, occupancy sensors to replace regular light switches, and solar panels in the Commons building. Steinberg Architects also was able to contribute in addressing the accessibility and life safety issues, through such seismic strengthening and a fire protection system.
