About
Lewis/Schoeplein Architects were asked to transform this vacant land adjacent to the Molecular Sciences building into a garden that can be used by the UCLA community. It involved installing rows of linear benches as well as drought-tolerant and native California plant species in order to ensure permeable ground pls a versatile outdoor space. As a bioswale, it is able to contain water during storms and flows it back down into the groundwater. It is built through a layer of fine soil to aggregate sediment that naturally filters the water. This is a perfect example of a natural water reclamation system.
