Irrigation Systems
About
An On-Campus Housing Maintenance project has installed a centralized irrigation control system that adjusts watering schedules based on landscape type and weather data to prevent over-watering. This runs on 24 smart controllers. In addition to this, more than 30% of the Hill irrigation was replaced by high-efficiency drip irrigation systems. In contrast to typical sprinklers, which result in water loss through evaporation, drip irrigation works by emitting water to a targeted area to allow the water to sink into the plant root systems underground. Additionally, these drip systems are complemented by a 4″–6″ layer of mulch to retain soil moisture and prevent seedlings from sprouting.
