The offices and facilities of the biology, chemistry, and communication/media departments are located here. The modern electronic media production and journalism labs are located on the bottom level of the building. The John R. Kirk Planetarium, which is used in conjunction with astronomy courses offered through the physics department, is located in the lobby of the building. The building was named for Edward Coykendall, a member of the Normal School Board of Visitors from 1938 to 1949.
