About
The Wasserman Football center aimed to increase its energy efficiency. Through Southland's designed, it utilizes low emissive solar hear gain coefficient glazing on the windows to reflect more light, which helped mitigate hot temperatures during the summer and to regulate interior temperatures. This then has a double benefit as now it pushes away from the reliance of cooling systems, thus saving energy. In addition, the weight room area has operable windows and doors, which maximize the use of natural ventilation during cooler and favorable temperatures to then reduce the reliance of mechanical cooling during those conditions. For indoor lighting, they utilized the all LED lighting with motion sensors. This center also uses a displacement ventilation system to regulate the transfer between indoor and outdoor air. In regards to the center's water efforts, it contains a greywater treatment and reclamation system, which collects drainage from the facility's 50 shows and 25 restrooms/sinks. This water is then treated to then be reused for purposes other than human consumptions to help reduce the facility's water use. This facility also uses a solar heating water system, which makes use of the sun's solar rays to naturally heat up the water for the center.
