About
Working with Stenfors Architects, the 90,000 sq. ft. institute building was renovated with the intention of sustainable improvements. The main catalyst for the renovation was to have structural reinforcements done to meet seismic codes. A disguised technique was applied where now a fiber wrap reinforcement is placed behind the stone façade to meet those codes. Meeting the Platinum LEED certification, the improvements include increased natural lighting through energy efficient systems, an integrated color signage, and a 3-story atrium that connects the entrance plaza to the upper entrance and garden that allowed lights to travel all throughout the building. Additionally, they removed the porte cochere(a porch for cars to drop people off) and installed windows to open up the original entrance to bring light into the space, as well as introduce crepe myrtle trees to the build's plaza that provides natural shade cover.
