About
Music industry executive and philanthropist Morris "Mo" Ostin donated $10 million to UCLA for a state-of-the-art campus music facility, Eveling and Mo Ostin Music Center was designed by Los Angeles-based Daly Genik Architects, under the direction of principal Kevin Daly. The use "UCLA blend bricks" of buff stone, concrete, and terra-cotta as regulated by UCLA Physical Deign Framework defining these are materials with permanence and durability. The inclusion of a terra-cotta rainscreen system allowed the building to ahieve UCLA's 20% better than state energy codes. For additionally energy-effeciency, the open joints in the infrastructure of the building enable natural ventilation and solar shading. Since the exterior includes a continuous layer of insulation it is more resistant to heat flow(high R-values). Furthermore, Shildan was able to produce 6 tile styles, which were made rom 35% recycled content, into the materialed used to create this building. Another enegy effecient aspect is the curainwall system from polycarbonate honeycomb material intergrated in the insulated glass to provde a layer of solar proection as well as helping regulate indoor thermal temperatures.
