    1. Armenian Heritage Park

This memorial at the intersection of Douglas and Chalkstone was built in 1995 by the children and grandchildren of Armenian exiles who ended up in Smith Hill when they fled the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1922. The monument is constructed of granite, the natural stone of the mountainous country; its design symbolizes the peak of Mt. Ararat, a spiritual center of the country. The inscription on the monument’s front conveys the poignancy of this communal history: “Wherever Armenian is spoken and written Armenia lives.”
