The Chapin Gallery houses the founding documents of the U.S., including an early printed broadside of the Declaration of Independence, one of six copies of the first British reply to the Declaration, one of the first official printings of the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, a draft copy of the Constitution, a House of Representatives draft version of the Bill of Rights, and the copy of The Federalist presented to George Washington by its authors, Alexander Hamilton and James Madison.
