Fleming Hall (East Village Complex)
702 Haygood Street, Oxford, GA 30054
Our 2006 Campus Master Plan called for the development of a student residential precinct southeast of the quad. Two new residence halls were completed in the summer of 2008. Construction on the third structure, which completes the precinct, is just now beginning and scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2014. The name of the third structure is Fleming Hall.
Currently under construction, Fleming Hall sits on Hamill Street opposite Elizer Hall.
Named for Bond Fleming, who served Oxford College as dean of the college during the second half of the twentieth century. Fleming was a leader in a transformative period in which Oxford College became what we know it as today. Women and minority students were welcomed and thrived, the educational model changed from a two-year stand-alone program to a four-year Oxford College/Emory College program, and a PhD-qualified faculty implemented higher educational standards.
Fleming, along with Murdy and Elizer, exemplify the best qualities of those who have shaped Oxford College: a commitment to the value of student/faculty engagement; the vision, creativity and resourcefulness required to move Oxford College forward; and a warmth and generosity of spirit that allowed Oxford to remain an optimistic community with the energy and passion for learning that fueled the institution's transformation.
