This memorial to brothers Mark Hopkins (1802-87) and Albert Hopkins (1807-72) carries the inscription: “Climb High, Climb Far; Your Goal the Sky, Your Aim the Star.”
At the conclusion of Commencement, graduating seniors pass through the gate, marking their entrance into the Society of Alumni.
Mark Hopkins was Williams’ fourth president, and Albert Hopkins was a long-time professor at Williams. Both were graduates of the college.
