Organization: Foundation for the Conservation of the Tropical Andes (FCAT) / Tulane University
Combining scientific research with training and education of local residents to achieve lasting conservation of the long-wattled umbrellabird in the rainforests of northwest Ecuador. Using GPS-based tracking devices to characterize Umbrellabird ecological services such as seed dispersal and seasonal movements beyond reserve boundaries. Implementing a long-term land management plan led by the local community by training local residents and students as field biologists and environmental leaders.
