Organization: Kasiisi Project
With special recognition in 2024 of Dr. Emily Otali for her incredible dedication to leading conservation efforts
Addressing threats to endangered elephants chimpanzees of Kibale National Park, Uganda, through education, research and community outreach. Educating 11,000 children and their communities, improving knowledge and attitudes about wildlife and increasing community participation in conservation activities. Strategically placed beehive "fences" utilizing elephants' dislike of bees, protect crops, reduce conflict with people and prevent retaliatory killings. Their research uses a new high-tech approach to track bee health, the factors affecting it and how it impacts efficacy of fences.
