Honeybee Hives
Sustainability Management oversees six honeybee hives that produce honey for retail in the University Campus Store, Campus Convenience stores, and the Barnes Center at the Arch, in the fall of each year. The six hives are in an apiary on South Campus and are overseen by the Campus Beekeeper who harvests the honey twice a year but ensures to leave enough honey for the bees to endure the winter. The worker bees produce honey from the pollen and nectar they collect from the local plants and most likely the honey contains nectar collected from the native pollinator gardens on campus, as the worker bees can travel up to six miles.
