In the summer of 2025, the interior lighting fixtures on the first floor of Bird Library were replaced with LEDs. Over 400 fixtures were replaced, reducing the energy use from lighting by nearly 70%. Sustainability Management anticipates a reduction of 31.76 MTCO2e annually.
In the fall of 2025, old fluorescent lighting fixtures were replaced for new LED retrofit kits on the second floor. In total 430 fixtures were replaced, helping to reduce the electricity use by roughly 70%. This project is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 37 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent annually.
In 2026, fixtures on the third floor were replaced with new LEDs.
