      1. Old Engineering

Opened in 1892, this 50,000 sq. ft. structure housed civil, mechanical, electrical, and mining engineering. Designed by Fred L. Olds in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, it was the architectural capstone of the campus and symbolized Penn State's emergence as one of the nation's ten largest engineering schools. Fitted with labs, lecture halls, shops, forges and a foundry, the building also supplied steam heat for the campus. It was destroyed in a spectacular fire on Nov. 25, 1918.
